The workshop acquires particular importance given that strategic planning represents the first criterion among institutional accreditation standards and one of the fundamental pillars for developing the performance of higher education institutions; it links the University's vision, mission, and objectives with executive programs and projects, and enables measuring achievement and identifying improvement opportunities based on actual results and documented evidence.
The workshop commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Aida Abdulmalik Al-Shami, Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, in which she emphasized the importance of moving from the stage of preparing plans to activating them, and transforming planning into effective institutional practice that translates objectives into tangible results.
In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Riyad Al-Aqab, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, referred to the exceptional circumstances that the city of Taiz is experiencing amid current events, affirming that Al-Rawad University, despite the challenges imposed by these circumstances, continues its efforts to complete its academic and developmental journey and enhance the quality of its institutional performance, driven by its educational responsibility and commitment to the continuity of development and improvement. He also affirmed the Board of Trustees' support for institutional development efforts, stressing that the true value of plans lies in transforming their objectives into tangible achievements and actual results that contribute to elevating the quality of university performance.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Ali Sallam, President of the University, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the importance of integrating the efforts of academic and administrative leaders in implementing operational plans, linking responsibilities with performance indicators, and enhancing continuous follow-up and evaluation, ensuring the transition from planning to actual achievement.
Following the opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Abdulraqeeb Al-Samawi commended Al-Rawad University's approach in building its strategic plan for the years 2025–2029 and linking its domains to institutional accreditation standards, explaining that this integration makes the implementation of strategic objectives a practical entry point for enhancing compliance with accreditation requirements and achieving continuous improvement.
Al-Samawi reviewed the axes of the University's strategic plan, the methodology for deriving the strategic objectives and plans of faculties and academic and administrative units therefrom, and then how to prepare annual operational plans and translate strategic objectives into projects and activities that are implementable and measurable.
The workshop also included practical training for participants on deriving operational projects and preparing annual plans, defining responsibilities, achievement indicators, and verification evidence, contributing to unifying the planning methodology and enhancing the interconnection between strategic objectives, implementation, follow-up, and evaluation.
This workshop comes within Al-Rawad University's efforts to transition from the stage of preparing plans to activating them, benefiting from previously completed planning work, and enhancing the integration between strategic and operational planning and institutional performance management, leading to measurable results that support quality and academic accreditation and contribute to developing the University's academic and administrative performance.
